About

So I’ve finally decided to write a travel blog!

This blog, in part will serve as a means to retrace and revisit my favourite London and NYC haunts – what I got up to when I lived there, where my travels led me and so on. As well as provide me with a space to write about my getting acquainted with and exploring a new city – Vancouver, Canada.

It will also give me the chance to document all my adventures from around the world. So that when that day comes when I hang up my backpack I can look back and read with laughter and joy over all the things I’ve seen and done. I also hope that readers alike, will enjoy my stories and find my recommendations helpful.

A little bit about myself for those who don’t me; I am a twenty-something Australian, living in Vancouver and I live and breathe travel. I have travelled to over 45 countries, over 100 cities and stayed in over 60 hostels. Since my first overseas adventure in 2004 I have been overseas backpacking nearly every year thanks to this persistent desire to travel, to open up my life to new experiences, to meet new people, discover new places – the colours, the smells, the people, the food (of course), the traditions, the ways of everyday life. My travels have taken me to such places as Marrakech, Sarajevo, Moscow, Bratislava, Lisbon, Minsk, Reykjavík and Paris, just to name a few.

Travelling has brought me some of the most exciting and memorable weeks I’ve ever had; waterfall jumping in Bosnia; rafting rapids in Montenegro; watching the sun set over Oia, Santorini; enjoying one too many of the Polish speciality Pierogi (dumplings) in Krakow; being stunned by an incredible lightening storm as it hit Lake Ohrid, Macedonia; retracing Maria’s steps in the Sound of Music in Salzburg; walking the rickety bridge of Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia; sleeping in an ex-military prison in Ljubljana, Slovenia; visiting the medieval Spiš castle in Slovakia.

I’ve been taken aback by breathtaking scenery from countries near and far, as well as by the battle scars of war torn cities like Sarajevo. I’ve been shocked, appalled and inspired by stories from locals I’ve met along the way. I’ve been constantly talked at by Grandmas around the Balkans, in languages entirely unknown and gained so much from simply walking the streets of cities like Krakow – learning far more about the details of WWII than any history lesson could ever teach. I’ve partied at a huge music festival on the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia for four nights straight… and so much more!

Long over due but never the less here it is Jesstours.com!
